Monterey Bay/Central Coast
Anywhere will have good things to see and do in Calif.
If you are on a budget and have only a week or less then
head for Redwood Country north of Eureka,Cal.
Also the southern beaches are great and if you’re driving you can find a reasonably priced motel a few miles east of the beaches. Go on line to reserve ahead of time.
Desert and mountain areas are good for all outdoor activities.
If you like culture then LA/SF are the areas to go to but SF costs more.

Los Angeles or San Diego are the best. Disneyland, if you’ve never been, is magical & fun at any age. Both places have great beaches, shopping, nightlife & tons of stuff to do during the days. If you need a good hotel deal for San Diego at least, you can stay for 3 days for $199 for both of you. Good luck!
