There are a lot of campgrounds all around the country. The people are nice, most are not far from civilization- camp near the big city you want to visit, save the Motel costs, and still enjoy the travel and the cities. Personally, I always enjoyed getting OUT of the city- learn to canoe, learn some camping skills, try geocaching (q.v.) Lots of things to do that don’t cost a fortune. It all depends on what your definition of FUN is.

umm go a state away it is cheap and you can find somthing to do relaxing there search the web on a state surrounding you
depends on where you live. I say go to florida. Nothing like clearwater beach to make the world seem perfect. Stay at the best western there.
You can just go to a hotel in another state for a long weekend and explore.
New Orleans, Tampa, Orlando Key West, Las Vegas.
Almost every state has some attraction.
You can have fun on a short cruise, which includes all meals, entertainment and going to different places….There are 4 night cruises.
You don’t say what area you live in……..so it is hard for us to suggest nice cheap places for you.

I think you Mom should go to India, because India is great fun and relaxing vacation spot,
