France is actually a pretty big country, so as far as what you can do, there are really lots of choices, but that will depend on what part of France you visit. Depending on what part of France you are going to, you can go to the beach, you can go skiing, you can visit castles and palaces, incredible art museums and cathedrals, you can go into prehistoric caves and see art created by humans 15,000 years ago. You can go canoeing, play golf, tennis, sail, go camping, You can spend all your time in one of the most beautiful big cities in the world (Paris) or you can wander around in ancient little stone villages.
For a family vacation, I’d recommend you spend some time in Paris, to begin with — and then consider visiting the Dordogne River Valley.

Try reaading more about the Dordogne River Valley here: or buy the Rick Steves’ France 2009 book to help plan your trip.

It is the number one tourist destination in the whole world so it must be at least a little bit fun.

France is the Largest Tourist Destination. It has a lot of culture, history, and very scenic places.
Paris is considered by many as the most beautiful and romantic capital city, has a lot of attractions, Eiffel Tower, Louvre Museum, Versailles palace, Arc of Triumph (Both the Original as well as the Modern , in La Defense).
Paris needs four days at least the best place to stay is in La defense which is a modern residential/office area with a good choice of hotels. Staying there is a 10 minutes commute to downtown paris by underground. Do not forget to take a dinner cruise on river Seine.
Provence has a lot of nice seaside cities and attractions to visit as cannes, nice as well as inland towns as Avignon. You can rent a barge to stay in instead of a hotel there.
Brittany a County in the north is very scenic and worth a visit.
Strasbourg is another city that deserves a visit.
The bottom line is France is a definite must for a Holiday wether you are going with family, fFriends, spouse or even alone.
