Aside from God/religion, etc. what are practical inexpensive ways to relax & have fun not on vacation?

fun vacation

I only have tiny windows of time sporadically. I serve my home, family, community, but as a ‘professional volunteer’ there is no vacation time. I’m limited on funds and have run out of practical fun ideas that cost little or next to nothing. Thanks for your ideas.

I don’t know where you live, so this may only be so effective…

I personally enjoy the great outdoors. I think one of the most relaxing things (other than perhaps the cold) is going to a park and just sitting, or talking with someone, or reading.

Try it, for the most part it will cost you nothing and there are parks within reasonable driving distance of just about anywhere in the US.

Spend time with nature, go on a walk, get a massage from your other half – there are plenty of things you could do to relax!

My personal favorite is reading a good book when no one’s home. :)

Buy a Monopoly game that you could always carry around. Whenever you’re feeling bored, ask your family or your co-workers to play with you. You’re very hardworking, that’s good. You could also play games at your computer, maybe? :)

My friends and I have game night, once a week.
We look forward to getting together to play. Each week someone brings a different game.

Pictionary, cards, monopoly and this new game scene it is fun.

Depends on what your area of interests are I suppose.

Download a PC game, there are loads of good free games and also lots of remakes of classics that are browser based (pong, tetris, frogger, etc)

Hire/download/buy some movies and watch them, doesn’t cost a huge amount and will keep you occupied, especially if you buy a whole season. Alternatively you can borrow them from a friend.

Go out into town on a weekend and have some drinks with some friends to just relax.

If you live near the beach and the weather is decent then go down there.

Start reading a book, there is no shortage of books on all different subjects and its likely to keep you occupied for a while.

Buy a portable system like a Nintendo DS and a couple of games, they aren’t that expensive and will keep you busy when you have time to relax. Alternatively you can buy an R4 which holds hundreds of DS games on it but thats not legal ;)

Hopefully that gives you a start, try not to burn yourself out form working too hard :)

    Take up writing.
A pencil, sharpener eraser and a pad of paper will cost you next to nothing. Write about your experiences in the short space of time between them.
